Regarding our recent downtime

You may have noticed that GWL has had quite a bit of downtime in the last month. All of these instances were caused by Giant Bomb adding restrictions to their API which caused us multiple problems. Giant Bomb whitelisted our IP address a few weeks ago and I thought this would be the end of our problems, but sadly I discovered last week that our hosting provider doesn't give out static IP addresses and the issue occurred again.

Search and game pages have been down over the last week while I set-up new hosting at Digital Ocean, which provides GWL with the resources to grow in the future, and the static IP we need now. This migration has been complete and I'm pleased to say the entire site is back up and running again.

Version 0.4 of the site is due shortly which will add some exciting new features, such as the ability to browse your collection by platform, a new look collection view and the ability to export your data from the site. After this release I will be focusing on removing our dependency on Giant Bomb, as they have proven themselves to be unreliable at best. Short term this means allowing game pages to work without the Giant Bomb API and adding monitoring of our API usage. Longer term, I plan to look at other APIs to grow our own game database so we don't have to be reliant on a single provider. This will eventually lead to building our own search, which will make the project truly independent.

I apologise for any problems the recent downtime may have caused. Hopefully we are now on the right track going forward.
